So following Bingham’s memorable and historic victory, we’ve decided to take at the oldest winners of various other major sporting events.
Masters - Jack Nicklaus
The Masters is arguably golf’s most prestigious competition. American Jack Nicklaus holds the record for the oldest winner of the green jacket, winning the 1986 tournament at the age of 46.
Wimbledon - Roger Federer
At 35 years and 11 months, Roger Federer became the oldest men’s singles winner of Wimbledon in 2017 when he defeated Marin Cilic.
Formula 1 Championship - Juan Manuel Fangio
Juan Manuel Fangio, nicknamed El Chueco, is the record holder for the oldest Formula 1 Championship winner. He won the 1957 championships at the age of 46.
Australian Open - Ken Rosewall
Australian legend Ken Rosewall is the oldest winner of the Australian Open, winning at the age of 37 in 1972.
U.S. Open - Hale Irwin
Hale Irwin was 45 years of age when he defeated the field in the 1990 U.S. Open at Medinah.

World Snooker Championship - Mark Williams
