2017 was another amazing year for sporting accomplishments.
Whether it was Chelsea winning the Premier League, to the British & Irish Lions earning a series draw in New Zealand or anything in between, there was plenty to talk about.
Here’s a look back at some of the biggest sporting moments of 2017:
January
In the world of tennis, Roger Federer and Serena Williams continued their eras of dominance with victories at the Australian Open.
Michael van Gerwen won the final of the PDC World Darts Championship, beating Gary Anderson 7-3 in the final.
February
The New England Patriots pulled off one of the best comebacks of all time, coming from 28-3 down in the third quarter to defeat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime of Super Bowl 51.
Cameroon won the African Cup Nations, defeating Egypt 2-1 in the final thanks to a late winner from Vincent Aboubakar.
March
England wrapped up a Six Nations victory in March but a defeat to Ireland prevented them from winning a Grand Slam
Tony Bellew defeated David Haye at London’s O2 Arena, in a fight which will be remembered for its particularly nasty build up.
April
In golf, Sergio Garcia claimed his first major championship by winning the Masters at Augusta.
Jockey Derek Fox rode to Grand National glory at Aintree on the 14/1 One For Arthur.
It was a double win for Kenya in the London Marathon as Daniel Wanjiru won the Men’s race and Mary Keitanyce won the Women’s.
Anthony Joshua outlasted Ukraine’s Wladimir Klitschko in an absolute classic at Wembley, getting up off the floor to knock the legendary fighter out.
May
In football, Chelsea lifted the Premier League title, Man United defeated Ajax in the Europa League final whilst Arsenal beat Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup.
Mark Selby defended his World Snooker Championship, coming from 6-2 down to defeat John Higgins 18-15.
June
Real Madrid became the first side to retain the Champions League, defeating Juventus in the final whilst Lyon won the Women’s Champions League Final.
Elsewhere, England’s U20 side won the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
In tennis, Rafa Nadal won another Men’s French Open title whilst Jeļena Ostapenko won the Women’s title.
In golf, Brooks Koepk claimed his first major win by shooting a 16 under par to win the U.S Open.
July
England sealed a famous Women’s Cricket World Cup win by defeating India by nine runs at a sold out Lords
Jordan Speith claimed another major golf title by winning The Open at Royal Birkdale.
There was also more joy for England’s youth sides af the U19’s won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
Rodger Federer’s late career resurgence continued as he won the Men’s title at Wimbledon. Garbiñe Muguruza won the Women’s title.
August
Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated Conor McGregor in one of the biggest sporting events of all time.
The Athletics World Championships saw the end of the amazing career of Usain Bolt, whilst Great Britain won the Men’s 4x100m final.
Rafael Nadal earned his second major title win of the year by winning the US Open, with Sloane Stephens winning the Women’s title.
Justin Thomas claimed his first Major championship win at the PGA Championship.
September
In one of the biggest fights in recent history, the eagerly anticipated fight between Saul Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin ended as a draw.
Joseph Parker defeated Hughie Fury by majority decision to keep hold of his world title, although plenty of people questioned the result post-fight.
In golf, the USA won the 2017 Presidents Cup.
October
Anthony Joshua defended his World Heavyweight titles by defeating Carlos Takam in Cardiff.
England’s success in youth football continued as they won the FIFA U17 World Cup.
November
The Formula 1 season ended in Abu Dhabi with Lewis Hamilton ending the season as the World Champion.
British horse Rekindling won the famous Melbourne Cup whilst Michael van Gerwin won the Grand Slam of Darts.
In Tennis, France won the Davis Cup Final.
